Adoption

We don’t have formal adoption forms; babies are first-come first-adopt. If you are interested in babies, please email or text, and I’ll be happy to send some pix of who’s currently available (pictures here are some examples of our babies, both current and past).

We are such rat addicts that we have babies year-round, so usually we have babies available. We don’t usually adopt out based on looks–when people meet up to pick ratties, we usually bring out everyone who’s available, so folks can pick based on in-person ‘vibes’ rather than pictures.

Adoption fee is 35 per standard size rattie, and 50 per dwarf (we don’t have dwarf very often, so if you’re interested in dwarf, those are just about the only ones that I do have a ‘waiting list’ for and will actually ‘hold’ for folks). We don’t take deposits–adoption fee is due on pickup (we take cash, Venmo, or Zelle).

Adoptions are always OPEN—meaning if you pick a rattie, but after a while do not get along with your rattie as well as you thought you might—you can bring back a standard baby to switch out for another standard baby with no additional adoption fee. And for dwarves, there is a money back guarantee—so if you do not get along with your dwarf as well as you thought you would, you can either bring the dwarf back to switch out for another dwarf with no additional adoption fee OR bring the dwarf back for a full refund.

We do delivery for a small fee, or if folks wish to meet locally, we are about 5 minutes away from Rengstorff Park in Mountain View. I usually have folks park in my covered assigned parking space when they arrive, and I take down all available babies to them in a little carrier. Folks take between five minutes and an hour and a half (yes, really) to meet all the ratties and take their time picking out who they like the best…hey, you never know–sometimes it’s love at first sight, sometimes you may need a bit more time to decide before you shack up! NOTE: if you plan to arrive using public transport, please let me know in advance—ratties aren’t outdoor animals and looking at them out in an open space will get them frightened and skittish (so then I can

NOTE: if you plan to get a rattie as a buddy for a rat you already have, please don’t bring the original rat; the change of environment and the shock won’t give you an ‘authentic’ reaction from your rattie if they like the new one or not anyway, and it will just needlessly stress both animals. I also advise against bringing other family pets (it may scare the new ratties to right away meet new people and also new animals), but ultimately it’s your choice. Folks typically sit in their car with the carrier(s) with the pet ratties and take their time picking who they vibe with the best.

We don’t adopt out ratties for food… I totally understand that snakes need to eat, but I’ve known and raised these babies since the day they were born, and can’t bear to have them be food. There are several stores in the area that sell both frozen and live feeders, and if in doubt, the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley always, always has lots of feeders in all types and sizes.

WE DO NOT SHIP because the prices are VERY VERY VERY high. You are looking at many hundreds of dollars to ship even halfway across the state. We’ve had people drive to us from out of state (Nevada, Oregon, Washington, etc) and I have also driven far for ratties…and when you mail, you also don’t get a chance to meet beforehand and see if you get along.
