Hello, and welcome! I’m a teacher by profession and a huge rat enthusiast (got my first in 1999…then my second a week later…and that’s how it goes). We happily provide the San Jose Bay Area with awesome mini dogs aka pet rats! We began breeding ratties in the late 2010s, after it became very challenging to find local breeders with quality pet ratties. We have a variety of coats, colors, and ears, depending on the litter.

Some of the colors we get are the standard agouti, blue, black, Himayalan, red-eyed-white (not albino), berkshire, mink, and quite a few types of face patterns.

We have both upright and dumbo ears (mostly dumbo, they look so cute and silly IMHO)...and we have both straight coats and also Rex (curly) coats.

We occasionally (rarely) get double-rex; we don’t have fully hairless or Manx (no tail) because of potential health issues (no judgment on those who do breed them, we just choose not to).

Our main goal is HEALTHY, HAPPY, SOCIAL babies (we breed for health and personality). All our ratties (babies and adults) live in several huge three-level Critter nation cages which are right between the living room and kitchen area–so the ratties see, hear, and smell people constantly (not to mention getting pets, hugs, and squeezes from us adults as well as my kiddos).

And as a bonus they’re really, really, really used to all sorts of food smells and every kind of loud noise, including the occasional broken cup or smoke alarm going off when I get too enthusiastic in my baking and not enthusiastic enough about setting the timer before the brownies turn into crunchy little fossils.

We are also supportive of breeders–please don’t feel like you have to ‘hide’ it if you want to adopt ratties because you plan to breed them; you are still welcome to adopt–you won’t have to sign any paperwork promising not to breed, etc. Just be sweet to our ratties, please–and the more pet ratties in the world, the better!

FYI–I do have a small ad on Craigslist also, so it’s possible you’ve run across it before. I thought it was finally time to put up a small page, yay!

PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINKS AT THE TOP OF THE PAGES FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION…but I understand that not everyone has time to do that, so here’s the basics:

-Ratties are $35 per standard and $50 per dwarf

-Adoptions are always open, meaning if in a few weeks you don’t vibe with your rattie as well as you thought you would, you can bring them back to switch out anytime for another one (no additional adoption fee)

-I recommend MAZURI rat food or OXBOW rat food

-For cages, for a smaller space/budget I recommend Rat Manor (Petco); for a larger budget I recommend Critter Nation (Amazon)

-For bedding, please don’t use shredded litter or shavings; just use some plain cardboard laid flat

-For litter boxes, use a heavy glass pan (too heavy for them to shift) and either cat litter made only of recycled newspaper (no added fragrance) or small animal litter (no added fragrance); both types should be on Chewy

-Cut up old sweats or t-shirts for hammocks and use paperclips to hang them (make sure there’s no loose threads so they don’t get their feet caught, and don’t use towel fabric as it has small loops)

-Stuff their cage with cardboard boxes! Rats love clutter and have fun chewing it up

-Other stuff rats love to eat besides rat blocks: -You can give them cooked chicken bones! Leftovers from rotisserie chicken? Chicken wing bones? go right ahead! Cucumber, melon…almost any veggies. Be light on fruit (high in sugar) and no citrus for boys (chemical reason). Cooked corn especially on the cob…dried uncooked pasta… cooked rice… low-sugar cereal…

-Are your rats fighting? If you have to ask that question, I assure you they are not. Rats (except breeding boys) rarely have serious fights but often have squabbles or just rough play. If they are having a SERIOUS fight you will not need to ask that question.
